The Practical Woodsman is a way to share love of the wilderness, as well as my observations, thinking, and approach to what folks today are calling 'bushcraft' and 'survival'. The focus is on what is practical, as well as pointing out certain things being demonstrated by 'bushcrafters' today that are not practical at all.

It had been raining for three days straight. It took me over two hours of careful, relentless work in a direct downpour to get this all-night fire established. Once it was going and I knew it could outlast all the rain Mother Nature had to throw at it, I took this picture. The effect is from the light of the fire reflecting off the air that is literally saturated with water droplets.

I am with Swerth. First snowfall here north of Toronto as well, an hour or so from his place. Local woods was peaceful.
